SEMPIO Gochujang 500G is a traditional Korean chili paste made with fermented rice, soybeans and wheat, combined with Korean chili powder (Gochugaru). It impresses with its complex flavor profile - hot, spicy, slightly sweet and full-bodied umami. The paste is ready to use straight away and is ideal for marinades, dips, soups and stir-fries as well as Korean classics such as bibimbap or tteokbokki.

What is Gochujang?
Gochujang is a traditional Korean seasoning paste made from fermented ingredients such as rice, soybeans and chili powder. It is one of the basic ingredients in Korean cuisine and gives dishes their characteristic spiciness and depth.

🥄 Bibimbap with gochujang sauce

Preparation:

  1. Cook rice and put it in a bowl.
  2. Blanch or briefly fry vegetables (e.g. spinach, carrots, zucchini) and serve on top of the rice.
  3. Place a fried egg on top.
  4. Mix 1-2 teaspoons of gochujang with a little sesame oil and water and pour over the dish.
  5. Mix well before eating and enjoy.

🍳 Tteokbokki – rice cakes in spicy sauce

Preparation:

  1. Soak 200g of Korean rice cakes (tteok) in water.
  2. In a pot, mix 400 ml water, 2 tablespoons gochujang, 1 tablespoon sugar and 1 tablespoon soy sauce and bring to the boil.
  3. Add tteok and simmer over medium heat until the sauce thickens, about 10 minutes.
  4. Optionally add fish cakes, green onions or boiled eggs.
  5. Serve hot.
